Developing and Evaluating Business Cases

This one-and-a-half-day hybrid workshop is designed to equip public sector professionals with the practical skills and strategic insight needed to develop and assess robust, evidence-based business cases that support sound decision-making and deliver public value.

Participants will explore the complete lifecycle of a business case—from identifying the problem or opportunity, to articulating options, assessing impacts, and presenting a compelling case for investment. The course delves into both financial and non-financial evaluation methods, helping participants understand how to balance cost, risk, and benefit in a public sector context.

A key focus is on aligning business cases with governance and accountability frameworks, ensuring proposals are not only persuasive but also compliant, transparent, and ready for implementation. Participants will also examine the role of business cases in securing stakeholder support and guiding long-term service planning.

Through a blend of interactive discussions, real-world examples, and hands-on exercises, learners will apply proven techniques to scenarios relevant to their work. By the end of the workshop, participants will be better prepared to contribute to high-quality business cases that drive strategic outcomes and deliver lasting impact for their organisations and communities.
