What are the course learning outcomes?
Learning outcomes:
- Define what Asset Management is and why it is important.
- Explain the difference between Asset Management and Managing Assets.
- Outline the Asset Management System.
- Summarise the key considerations for good Asset Management
- Identify and explain the factors for success including alignment with the financial planning and reporting task.
After completing the Asset Management Foundations course, you will have a stronger understanding of the asset management discipline. The course references the updated ISO 55000 series standards—including ISO 55000, 55001, and TS 55010—ensuring your knowledge aligns with current international best practices and supports effective integration of asset and financial management.

Who is this course suited to?
This course is for professionals managing public infrastructure assets such as transport, water, sewer, parks, community facilities, and buildings. As well as those with Asset Management in their corporate portfolios.
What are the course credentials?
Participants will receive a digital badge upon successful completion of the course which can be shared across various online platforms so you can showcase your demonstrated skills and achievements.
Eligible for CPD by Engineers Australia (EA) in accordance with EA Guidelines. Total estimated 25 hours.
What does my course schedule look like?
This course is self-paced and delivered online with the opportunity for participants to attend live virtual Q&A sessions with subject matter experts. These live sessions will be recorded and available as webinars for those who are unable to attend.
You will be guided throughout the program by a personal learning mentor who will help you with activities.

Commitment to all sessions within this course is essential for an optimised learning experience.
Modules: Each of the four modules requires you to work through the online materials each week, comprising assessment activities and reading excerpts from the International Standards and IIMM publications. On average, each module will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete the mandatory learning activities.
Assessments: After each of the four Modules, you will be asked to complete a short assessment task designed to consolidate your learning.

Steve brings a depth and breadth of expertise to the team and willingness to share experiences with those who wish to develop their skills and knowledge.
Tamara Allen-Canny
Senior Advisor – Asset Mgt, IPWEA
Tamara is a passionate advocate for building asset management capability across local government and industry. With over two decades of senior executive experience, she has worked across growth, rural, and regional councils in Victoria and Queensland. Tamara brings deep knowledge in infrastructure and engineering services, having led teams in asset management planning, capital works delivery, maintenance, and disaster recovery. Tamara understands the real-world challenges councils face in managing assets effectively and sustainably and has extensive experience in leading asset transformation programs in both large and small councils. Through her work with IPWEA, she supports others in developing practical skills and strategic approaches to asset management. Her leadership and lived experiences have helped teams build confidence and deliver long-term value for their communities.
